Allocate some land for Kaiapoi BMX Track

In September 2010, Kaiapoi suffered great damage. Many buildings were red-zoned and many of our town facilities were also lost.

Sadly through these losses, our children are still suffering over 2 year later. Other than the play areas, there is nothing for older children. The local swimming pool, the skate park and also the BMX track have gone.

It is facilities like these that allow our younger generation to play, explore and socialise. Without such outlets, they will find other avenues to expend their energy.

I am dismayed that our council has been unable to find and secure any land, and consents to re-establish these. Yet, the very same council has been able to allocate land from a public park, and provide significant funding for a private group that already has the same facilities within the town. A BMX track is not just for club use - it is for everyone in the local community to use, and allows children (and adults)  to play on their bikes AWAY from traffic.

This petition is to ask that the council find, and allocate some land WITHIN Kaiapoi for a BMX track.  It has to be within the town boundaries for our children to be able to play.

We now have red-zoned land that is being maintained by our Council - there must be some that could be allocated to our childrens use?
