Bring Back Holiday Celebrations to Our Schools

We believe that the children of the Chittenden Central Supervisory Union are being slighted the opportunity to spend time learning about American culture, specifically holidays. It is our understanding that schools have been told to not acknowledge holidays such as Halloween, Christmas, and most recently, Valentine's Day.
We have opened this petition to a national audience because students across the country have been left without the experiences that many of us had in our childhood, when we were young and in elementary school. It was at these young ages that the cornerstone of our cultural learning began, and now that cornerstone has been removed.
We've selflessly altered our schools to be acceptable of all different cultures, something that this country prides itself upon. However, it has now came to the point where our own culture is being forgotten, and holidays that are important in the American way of life are being ignored, with schools being told to not even acknowledge their existance.
It is shameful to think our country cannot spend an hour, on a holiday, to celebrate the day that is a part of this countries beliefs. We, the Undersigned, propose that effective immediately, there should be actions taken to re-introduce holiday celebration into our schools, so that the children of today will grow up with the same experiences and knowledge that we had available at their age.
