Im starting this petition to try and get St Helens council to restart a cloth nappy scheme. Many other councils offer schemes so why should St Helens residents miss out?
Cloth nappies save alot of nappies from going to landfil and in my opinion are better for a babys skin than the chemicals that are in disposables. When cloth nappies are mentioned most people have the thoughts of terrt towels and boiling. It is not like that any more, Cloth nappies now are as easy as a disposable. There are no pins just poppers or velcro, there is no need to soak you just put in a bucket until you are ready to wash.
When I 1st started using cloth nappies I wanted to try a few types and see what suited my son, I contated St Helens council as their website advertised a scheme where you bought a full time nappy kit by paying in instalments. However when I contacted them i was informed they no longer offered an incentive scheme. Many other councils offer money back vouchers, nappy trials or free nappies. Although the inital outlay may be ratehr high the amount of nappies then saved from landfil is substaintial.
We need to try and get as many people to sign this petition to show to St Helens there is a need for scheme like this, all the surrounding councils do it so that must prove cloth nappies are gaining in popularity.
