WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, represent a coalition of residents of the City of Buffalo, businesspeople with a business situated within the City of Buffalo, students of the various educational institutions within the City of Buffalo and frequent visitors to the City of Buffalo;
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, hereby officially petition our elected officials to cease the pursuit of privately-owned and operated red light cameras to be installed in the city of Buffalo;
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, believe that the installation of red light cameras will not serve as a deterrent to those who would otherwise violate the local and state ordinances against driving through a red light;
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, believe that the installation of red light cameras will result in an increase in rear-end collisions;
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, believe that the job of policing our streets should be a job reserved for the municipal police departments, and should not be contracted to private companies who do not answer to the people, as the police do;
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, respectfully demand that our democratically-elected representatives abandon any attempt to contract a private company to install and/or operate red light cameras within the city limits.
