Major live acts have recently been making their way through the Lynchburg community. Just recently, Breaking Benjamin played a show at Cattle Annie's. But the problem that we concerned citizens have, is that not everyone who is a huge, dedicated fan gets to attend these concerts because every major live event is 21 and up.
All of our Lynchburg residents are aware of the strict ABC laws that Virginia has passed. These laws are followed in order to ensure that underage drinking is prohibited at every event, and that everyone feels safe. However, there are ways to get around allowing underage fans to attend events, and to make sure that these laws are upheld. Venues in other Virginia cities, such as The Canal Club in Richmond, VA, and The Norva in Norfolk, VA, have adopted strategic plans (such as placing X's on underage attendees, and wristbands on legal attendees), that have been successful at every event they have hosted. They have never had reports to the Virginia ABC office, because the staff and security at these venues are willing to make everything work, so that fans of all ages can enjoy great live music.
Why should Lynchburg high school and college students have to drive two, three, even four to five hours to get to shows that they really want to see, because there are no venues that host their favorite bands? There is a venue that is right here in the heart of Lynchburg Cattle Annie's but they are, as of right now, not accepting to their younger music fans.
We are asking that the owners of Cattle Annie's entertain the idea of lowering the age limit to at least 18 years of age so that Lynchburg, VA can be a more entertaining and wonderful experience for everyone who calls this place home.
