Citizens Against Ntelos Tower

The Ntelos cell tower proposed for the property owned by the Recreational Association of Fairfield on Beulah Road, Sandston, Virginia is in direct violation of the County Code, section 24 95 (under consideration for amendment as of October 9, 2007).

The tower has also been opposed by the Federal Aviation Administration and the Richmond International Airport Commission because it lies within the Airport Safety Overlay District and has the potential to interfere or alter any of the approach procedures to Richmond International Airport.

The County implemented an Airport Safety Overlay District with the intent to regulate and restrict the height of permanent and temporary structures, objects and natural growth in the vicinity of Richmond International Airport and to restrict the uses of land in the vicinity of the airport by prohibiting any use that would in any way interfere with aircraft landing, taking off or maneuvering with the intention of using the Airport.

Not only is the construction of this tower in the currently proposed location a violation of County Code and in violation of the Airport Safety Overlay District intent, it also has the potential to create a safety hazard for the flying public as well as the citizens on the ground.

Therefore, the undersigned strongly urge the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission of Henrico County, Virginia to deny this petition for construction of the Ntelos tower on the current proposed site on Beulah Road.
