It would consist of a four 4-points to make condominium boards and property management more responsible for their decision-making and more answerable to owners and tenants for their actions.
1. Create an office for oversight and dispute resolution which would work on behalf of condominium owners and help resolve disputes more effectively.
2. Mandate disclosure of conflicts of interest between condominium board members, property managers and hired contractors;
3. Mandatory disclosure of all condominium rules, restrictions and fees;
4. Ensuring that all condominium contracts are understandable and use clear, easy to understand language not just lawyer words.
More and more I hear about cases of mismanagement, abuse of authority and corruption in the running of condominiums including cases of unscrupulous condominium boards that have defrauded the maintenance funds from their buildings.
Mismanagement by some condominium boards is a threat to condominium owners investments and quality of life.
These stories have led me to believe that greater protections need to be in place for condominium owners.
I would like to help and am circulating a petition to create a Condominium Owners Bill of Rights," that will promote accountability, protection and transparency in the management of condominiums.
