CUA Students Seeking a Unique Commencement Speaker

You announced on March 1st that you will be delivering the 2010 commencement address. You based this decision on the Facebook group Fr. O'Connell for Commencement Address 2010, citing that the group consisted of about 150 people. However, many of these group members are alumni and underclassmen, not seniors.
As members of the graduating class of 2010, we deserve a unique commencement address, delivered by an individual who can offer exceptional words of wisdom, inspiration and advice. You would be able to make such remarks during a distinct speech as University President, both at the commencement exercises as well as at the baccalaureate Mass.
We have been privileged to attend this institution under your leadership. Along with the rest of the CUA community, we are grateful for your years of service. By signing this petition, we do not mean any disrespect to you, our out-going president. We will welcome and appreciate your remarks as you conclude your twelve years at CUA, but we seek for you to introduce someone, other than yourself, as the 2010 commencement speaker.
