Cavan Midwife Led Unit is under threat of imminent closure. This will mean the removal of yet another choice in maternity care in Ireland.
Women need to own their birth but feel supported by carers who in turn care about them. Mothers who birth in MLu report they feel better supported antenatally, intranatally and postnatally in many ways but particularly with birthing and breastfeeding.
Many studies including the recent Irish MidU study and UK Birthplace study recommend Midwife Led Care for low risk Mothers.
Midwife led care is associated with greater satisfaction levels, lower rates of routine intervention and is cost efficient. Cavan MLU expects to be working to capacity by Mid 2012.
Normal Birth and Midwife expertise for Mother led birth is at increasing threat Nationwide in Ireland.
It is important for women to have the option to choose where they wish to birth their babies.
Please support us to reverse the decision to shut down the Cavan Midwife Led Unit (MLU)
