Hi, As a Type 1 Diabetic for a little over a year, I feel really strongly that the DVLA in the United Kingdom is unfair in its treatment of Diabetics, by forcing them to reapply for there Driving Licences every three years. Not only does this cost the individual, but should we fail any number of medical checks, eye tests or heath reviews, then our licence will be removed. This is a total breech of confidence for drivers, especially younger drivers, as the government are treating us like second-class citizens. Even people who break the law by speeding do not have to go through this, so why should ordinary drivers do it for the rest of their lives? If the government made some allowances, such as a statement from the healthcare team every three years, this would be better, or possibly a greener solution would be to provide some diabetic buss pass? People with Diabetes have enough considerations to worry about; driving shouldnt be one of them.
Below are some people that share my beliefs and feel let down by the DVLA.
