Nowruz is celebrated in Greater Iran, Caucasus, Central Asia and by Iranians worldwide. Nowruz has spread in many other parts of the world, including parts of South Asia, Northwestern China, the Crimea, Somalia, Yemen and some ethnic groups in Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo and the Republic of Macedonia. Nowruz is also celebrated by Kurds in Iraq and Turkey as well as by Parsis in the Indian subcontinent.
Nowruz is a public holiday in Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey.[2] Also the Canadian parliament, by unanimous consent, has passed a bill to add Nowruz to the national calendar of Canada, on March 30, 2009.[3]
During the meeting of The Inter-governmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage of the United Nations, held between 28 September 2 October 2009 in Abu Dhabi, Nowrūz was officially registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.[2]
Yahoo! Answers has created a great online community that shares knowledge and different opinions. But while there are categories representing holidays and ceremonies from almost all cultures, nations and countries, unfortunately there is no separate category for Nowruz on Yahoo! Answers.
Considering the statements above, and appreciating the efforts of Yahoo! for providing such a possibility for users from various cultures and with different opinions, we, the signers of this petition, appeal to Yahoo! Answers Administration to add a distinct category for Nowruz ceremony on Yahoo! Answers website.
We believe this can create the chance for people around the world to learn more about this important ceremony, and the culture of people who celebrate this ceremony.
