The new whitehouse.gov site is crisp and user friendly and provides great potential for the new administration to continue the grassroots efforts that have gotten it so far. The blog is an excellent feature, but without comments it is nothing more than an rss-enabled news feed. To truly harness the power of public comment and debate and the networking aspects of the technology the administration needs to enable comments. Though drawbacks exist such as spam and the time needed to work with the comments the benefits i believe outweigh the drawbacks. Using the site as a social network could harness the power of the collaborative masses and make the whitehouse web site a useful community as opposed to simply an after thought with a nod to the collaborative. We can accept that there is a needed degree of moderation but truly the administration has the resources and the talent to manage this project and make this an amazing space...Not just for the public but for the administration to crowd source many of its ideas, focus groups, and other needed forms of public interaction.
