End the Ban on Parole Now! Build Schools, Not Prisons!

Today hundreds of people who are eligible for parole are in prison. Even parolees who had already left prison and rejoined society are being sent back to prison.
THE BAN ON PAROLE IS UNFAIR.
Punishing all eligible parolees in CT is not a just or reasonable response to the harmful incidents in Cheshire.
THE BAN ON PAROLE IS BAD FOR PUBLIC SAFETY.
Those who leave prison on parole are half as likely to return to prison as those who complete a full term. People who leave prison need safe, healthy, and supportive places to go. Adequate food, shelter, and health care are things that could create a truly safe Connecticut.
WE HAVE A REAL SOLUTION TO THE PRISON CRISIS:
RECOGNIZE THE HUMANITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS OF PRISONERS...
Prisoners in Connecticut today are treated inhumanely in extremely crowded, unhealthy conditions. Most of prisoners never harmed, nor threatened to harm, any person with violence. Reasonable prison policy must reduce the number of people in prison and increase the number of people who receive drug treatment, health care, education and job training in community-based programs.
...DISCRIMINATORY SENTENCING LAWS, 3-STRIKES LAWS, AND PRISON EXPANSION ARE THE PROBLEM NOT THE SOLUTION.
BUILD SCHOOLS, NOT PRISONS!
Legislators want to spend $400 Million to build 2 new prisons and increase the prison population by 2000 people. If we spent this money on education and jobs, these 2000 people would be learning and working, not in prison.
