Fanfiction.net and Musical Lyrics

This is a petition for anybody who has been affected by the recent 'strict clampdown' on using musical lyrics within fanfiction.net pieces.

While this may have been a site policy for a long time (as claimed by the site notification) it was not a rule that a great deal of writers were aware of. I myself have been a member of the site for over a year and have not once heard of this rule.

Perhaps what is most irritating is when the song lyrics are integral to the plot as is the case with many submissions made to the 'Muscials' category. Forcing writers to amend this amounts to complete change of the work and if a person is simply told to remove the entry or face account closure the entire community are being deprived of what could have been an interesting story with complementary musical lyrics.

Surely including musical lyrics in a piece is celebration of them. Isn't that what fan fiction is supposed to be about?
