FAO: Louth County Council - Let us have a community garden in Ardee.

Within the last year there had been two public meetings in Ardee where local community members talked about starting up a community garden in the town. It was clear that there are many people interested in either growing organic food themselves or who support the idea.
The purpose of Ardee Community Garden would be to create a space for local community members from all backgrounds to grow food. The garden would be an important part of our community where interested people of all ages could learn about the importance and practices of organic food growing. It would be a space for growers to meet, share experiences and integrate. Local schools and pre-schools would be invited to participate as we intend to organize basic
gardening sessions for children. It could be the first step for our community to move from consumption to production, thus allowing for the local community’s resilience to global environmental and economic challenges to build.
The proposed site - College Green - is fenced, which would secure the garden from possible vandalism. There would be a composting site in the garden, a shed for storage and polytunnels for more weather sensitive plants. Rain water would be collected for use in the garden and we would designate a teaching space for horticultural sessions, propagating and harvest markets.
In April 2014 a proposal for Ardee Community Garden had been sent to Louth County Council, yet to this date no decision had been made by the council in this regard.
This petition is a call for Louth County Council to allow members of community in Ardee to use the proposed site as community garden. Please, sign and share.
