We, the undersigned, urge you to facilitate the immediate and unconditional release of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima (born April 25th, 1989), the young boy recognized by His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama as the XI Panchen Lama of Tibet. The Chinese Government has been holding the boy and his parents incommunicado since 1995. His spiritual education is in jeopardy and his life is at stake. The Chinese Government is a known violator of human rights as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The kidnapping and detention of the Panchen Lama, his parents, and dozens of others arrested in connection with his case are a shocking example of the measures that the Chinese government will go to suppress the Tibetan people. As proud believers in democratic values, we urge you to use your influence as a U.S. Leader to help secure the immediate release of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima.
