What is happening to the America that was once the land of the free? Now that women, African Americans, Hispanics, and minorities all across the country have been granted rights, shouldn't homosexuals here in America and across the world, be given rights as well? The 9th amendment to the United States constitution states that, "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."
One example of homosexual discrimination includes insurance policys who cover their clients marital partners. There are a selective amount of insurance companies that do cover marital partners, but exclude homosexual marriages because many states in the U.S. do not acknowledge same-sex marriages. Many homosexual couples are left with financial struggles later on due to problems that could occur with any type of persons. Because of their lack of acknowledgement, homosexuals couples are denied coverage from their insurance claims.
Other examples involve marriage and adoption. What "regular", or heterosexual couples do, shouldn't homosexual couples be allowed to do as well? After all, equal rights are equal rights. If homosexuals are equal to heterosexuals, shouldn't they be given the rights to marry or adopt children? At least if the U.S. Government won't allow the couples to marry, shouldn't they in fact, let them adopt chlidren.
I, and others, find it outrageously prejudice that homosexuals aren't given many rights that most Americans take for granted. Homosexual relationships have for too long been disregarded as "wrong", or just plain ignored. It is time we as Americans stand up for equality and show our support of gay rights!
