Health Insurance Reform

Calvin Coolidge once said that social progress is more likely to endwith a government program than begin with a government program.

Too many Americans have left the health insurance market. Frivolouslawsuits, burdensome government mandates, regulations, restrictions andlack of competition are pricing Americans out of the market. Too manyAmerican families are left without any health insurance coverage.

More often than not hospitals and doctors find themselves catering tothe needs and wants of insurance companies as opposed to treating theirpatients according to sound, professional medical expertise. Themedical community should be allowed to utilize their professionalexpertise and follow the oath taken when first becoming a medicalprofessional rather than adhere to rules and regulations imposed uponthem from an insurance corporation which limits their ability to fullytreat their patients.

American families are left carrying the burden not being properlytreated, becoming sicker or faced with a life-threatening medicalcondition.

Suggested Reform:

Give Americans the option to purchase a low cost, basic health planthat best suits their needs, and not what the government says theyneed;

Remove government mandates and red tape that unnecessarily drive healthinsurance costs to an unaffordable level;

Allow small businesses to band together so they can leverage theirpurchasing power, ease their administrative burden and have morechoices;

Discourage lawsuits that have no merit and drive health insurance costsup to an unaffordable level;

Encourage more competition and choices by making it easier forinsurance companies to return to a competitive reformed insurancemarket;

Discourage HMOs and all other insurance companies from making the finalhealth care decision. Give these decisions back to the medicalcommunity where they belong. Give hospitals and doctors back the toolsthey need to better treat the patient;

Stop the limitations imposed by HMOs and other insurance companies oftime spent in the hospital and specific procedures they will or willnot cover;

Each case should be decided individually by the professional medicalcommunity, not a third party insurance corporation.

Give every citizen the ability to carry affordable, effective healthcare coverage based on their level of household income, regardless of pre-existing conditions
