Help Wanda Hildebrand Come Home To Squamish

Wanda Hildebrand is 69 years old and a resident of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. She requires dialysis treatments three times a week. In November 2005 she suffered two heart attacks and was transferred to St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver. After she returned home to Squamish she was informed she had acquired MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) during her 10 day hospital stay. Because she has MRSA the Community Dialysis Unit in Squamish refused to dialyze her and she was forced to travel by ambulance three times a week for 4 MONTHS to the main hemodialysis unit at St. Paul's Hospital. On March 22 (after almost 50 trips to Vancouver) she was finally permitted to have dialysis again in Squamish.

In late June 2006 Wanda had another heart attack and was once again transferred to St. Paul's Hospital. On July 4th she had triple by-pass open heart surgery and on August 9th she underwent a second operation to reposition and rewire her sternum. As of today's date (August 25/06) she is still at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver however this time during her hospital stay there she has acquired VRE (Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus).

She is recovering reasonably well from the two surgeries and will soon be ready to be discharged however her health is such that she will need to be placed in an extended care facility. The Community Dialysis Unit in Squamish once again refuses to dialyze her. The only alternative she is being given is to relocate to an extended care facility in Vancouver and continue to have dialysis at St. Paul's Hospital.

We the undersigned agree on the following:

1) With the Community Dialysis Unit in Squamish refusing to dialyze her Wanda Hildebrand is being denied her right to live in Squamish.

2) Wanda Hildebrand has the right to the best quality of life and that can ONLY be achieved by living at the extended care facility in Squamish and resuming her dialysis treatments in Squamish.

3) Wanda Hildebrand has the right to enjoy the rest of her life in Squamish where her friends and family members reside.
