Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board child safety

The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board wants my 6 year old child to walk to the end of the block and then cross a street without a crossing guard to get on her bus to go to school. This it totally unacceptable.
We live on John St in Sault Ste Marie, John St is a main street that serves many local area streets and has a great deal of traffic daily. In the Winter months, John St narrows to barely be able to accommodate two vehicles safely and side walks are poorly maintained. It is well known that even city transit buses have to yield the roadway to each other as a result of the narrow street situation during winter months creating dangerous conditions for pedestrians on the sidewalk as well.
A 6 year old child is not very tall nor steady on their feet, this could easily make it dangerous for a child on a sidewalk during a time where a motor vehicle is backing out of a drive way.
We are working parents and cannot walk our child to a bus stop every morning further more, the person we have doing our child care is older and not able to walk great distances. The bus currently comes our way in the mornings and evenings. In the morning, the bus would have to travel an additional 400 meters, in the evening, the bus drives past our house therefore no changes in distance would have to be made. However the bus currently drops off my child up the street also making my child cross another street without a crossing gurad to get home even though it will pass by our house, this is total nonsense.
This petition is to make changes in the best interest of our child and other children in similar situations. No child safety should be compromised for attending school.
