We, the undersigned, are urging the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office, to aggressively seek an indictment, then ultimatly, a conviction, against Sgt. Keeland Cheramie, of the Grand Isle, Louisiana Police Department, for the murder of Bret Joseph Lemoine. Mr. Lemoine was shot and killed on June 2, 2003, in Grand Isle, Louisiana. The shooting occured following a traffic stop by Cheramie. At the time Bret was killed, his truck was stopped and in park on a small dead end street just a few feet from his parents home. There were at least 10 shots fired at the truck, with one shot hitting the victim. All of the shots came from the passenger side of the vehicle. Bret Lemoine was completely unarmed at the time of the shooting.
This incident culminated months of harassment of the Lemoine family, by the Grand Isle Police Department. The family, on numerous occasions, went to the mayor of Grand Isle, David Carmadelle, to explain the situation. All the mayor could say was his hands are tied.
Therefore, by signing this petition, we are demanding that Mr. Connick break the "code of silence", and put an end to the countless instances of abuse at the hands of the Grand Isle Police Department.

132. Amber C | I have known Bret since high school, he would not provoke a violent situation. Sgt. K. Cheramie should be convicted for his negligence, harrassment, and the murder of Bret Lemoine. Judge Carmadelle claims his hands are tied, by whom, the Cheramie Family?
