Kansas Speedway Drag-strip

We, the undersigned, hereby petition the owners/operators of the Kansas Speedway, International Speedway Corporation (ISC) Chairman James C. France and Kansas City, Kansas Mayor Joe Reardon to bring a 1/4 (quarter) mile drag-strip to the area of the Kansas Speedway facility.

In order to promote safe speed contests, and in order to best prevent the dangers associated with illegal street racing, we urge ISC and Wyandotte County Executives to recognize the need for and almost guaranteed success of a 1/4 mile drag-strip at the Kansas Speedway for local and regional racers. As the closest venues for 1/4 mile drag racing are currently located in Independence, Missouri and Topeka, Kansas. The distances may not be prohibitive to many racers but with more options and competition for business among more facilities there will be more racers that make take it to the track instead of on the public roads of Kansas City. A 1/4 mile drag-strip would have the potential to operate nearly year round (weather permitting).

Bringing a 1/4 mile drag-strip to Wyandotte, Kansas would encourage not only local racing competitions, but national sanctioning bodies such as the NHRA, IHRA, NDRA (NOPI Drag Racing Association), NMRA (National Mustang Racing Association), IDRC (Import Drag Racing Circuit) and other such bodies to host a regional or national event, due to the central location of the Speedway facilities, across the street access to lodging and the easy highway access from all directions. These regional and national events would create guaranteed exposure for the Kansas Speedway and provide much needed income to the track in between current Speedway events.

So, we the undersigned, hereby declare our intention to fully support a 1/4 mile drag-strip at the Kansas Speedway and strongly encourage the owners/operators of the Kansas Speedway, International Speedway Corporation (ISC) Chairman James C. France and Kansas City, Kansas Mayor Joe Reardon to recognize the desires of Kansas City area racers and business owners.
