Keep Our Health Care As It Is

President Obama and Congress are pushing "reform" that will move America closer to an equitable system like Canada or Britain. If they succeed, almost all Americans will have quality, affordable health insurance and access to care when they need it. Indeed, tens of millions of Americans will no longer be uninsured or underinsured.

I support the following as key elements of any health care reform plan:

CHOICE: I support the right to choose my own doctor (whether or not
they are any good at their job) and to choose a health insurance
plan that best fits my family's needs (no matter how
unaffordable it may be).

ACCESS: I want to get the treatment I think I need, when I need it, and
I want it NOW. If that means someone else has to go without,
then so be it. I want my health care to be me-centered
rather than government-centered.

FAIRNESS: I want the same tax breaks employees get if I have to pay for
my own health insurance; and I want government assistance
redirected away from the lazy, undeserving poor, and towards
those that truly need help--which includes me should I ever
fall seriously ill and/or lose my job, or in the event that
my employer decides to no longer offer benefits. (NOTE: Fair
does NOT mean that everyone who needs it is entitled to the
same care that I am entitled to receive.)

RESPONSIBILITY: I want more control to cover my own health care
decisions (whether or not I am able to make sound
medical choices) and I want a system that encourages
everyone to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse. I want
insurance I can take with me if I have to change jobs.

"I, the undersigned citizen of the United States, petition the U.S. Congress to stop any increased role of the government in my health care decisions. I realize that without meaningful reform, the U.S. health care system is doomed to collapse in the very near future, and I accept that as the reasonable outcome of my ability to get whatever care I want, whenever and however I want it, with little regard for what it might actually cost. I refuse to believe that some government bureaucrat knows what is best for me, and therefore petition the Congress to leave intact my ability to be fleeced by the private insurance industry."
