Kenilworth needs a better skatepark

Kenilworth skatepark is a facility that has been well used by the local skateboarders, BMX riders and rollerbladers for just over ten years. Starting off with just a mini ramp (half pipe), and expanding to include Woodward ramps provided by Rhino (a playground equipment constructor), the skatepark has never truly challenged users or provided locals with what they truly want to ride. The mini ramp was recently removed due to it's dangerous condition - this obstacle was a major part of the skatepark, and with no possible plans for it to be replaced, the skatepark users feel they have not been provided with a proper facility to practice. Considering Kenilworth's close position to Coventry, Leamington and Stratford, the skatepark gets use from people of all ages from all over Coventry and Warwickshire. In general, the county of Warwickshire has a distinct lack of high quality or even decent skatepark facilities. This is shown in Sidewalk Magazine's "Skatepark Map 2009", where no skateparks in the Warwickshire or Coventry area are mentioned. This, in turn, has a negative effect on the skatepark scene in the area - with no industry interest in Warwickshire skateparks, locals cannot fully connect with the wider UK scene and in turn either quit their chosen sport to take up undesirable activities or sit at home watching TV and lacking exercise. Those who do stay on and continue to use skateparks end up spending thousands of pounds a year on travelling to good skateparks, damaging the environment with long car journeys, and spending their money elsewhere (whilst their local economy dwindles). With a large usergroup (that has continuously used the facility since it's initial opening), as well as the recent addition of new obstacles (built with funds raised by the local skateboarders), Kenilworth Skatepark deserves a fresh start. By creating a top quality, bespoke facility created from Concrete by a trusted park manufacturer (Wheelscape, Gravity or Maverick), and by removing the poorly constructed, uninteresting ramps provided by Rhino, Kenilworth could have a skatepark that will give locals years of enjoyment with no need for major maintainence. By creating a great skatepark from the outset, the Council could invest in the future and provide a skatepark the local users will be happy with. By attracting more Warwickshire skateboarders, BMX riders and rollerbladers to the skatepark, local economy will benefit and troublemakers may be encouraged to take up a positive and healthy activity. By signing this petition, you agree that Kenilworth deserves and needs a top quality skatepark facility.
