In making the announcement, the Chairman of Celebrate Africa Foundation, Dr. Chika Onyeani, said that the massive campaign is geared towards collecting more than 2 million signatures, online and in print, to present to world leaders and major international organizations to stop referring to Africa as "Sub-Saharan Africa." Said Onyeani, ""Sub-Saharan Africa' is a pejorative term. It is an euphemism for contemptuousness employed by the continent's detractors to delineate between the five Arab countries that make up north Africa from the other 42 countries and the islands that make up the rest of Africa. According to what the term "Sub-Saharan Africa" entails right now, it means north Africa is consisted of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia." Onyeani asked, "who decided on the line of demarcation between "northern" and "southern" Africa?"
