Microsoft Bug Fix for IE6

This petition asks that Microsoft repair a bug inherent with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. After reviewing a great many newsgroups and searching through many Knowledge Bases and other various help sites, it is apparent that a fix to this problem is not available. The Knowledge Base at Microsoft.com does not acknowledge this problem.

Symptoms of this bug: When attempting to open a new IE6 window, the window appears to "freeze" or "hang" for a period of approximately 30-60 seconds. During this time, other open windows may or may not be usable. Pop up advertising is especially annoying because any new window freezes the browser for the period of time specified above. This behavior is erratic and as of yet, cannot be tied to any particular software program.

This problem appears to occur across all Windows operating systems running IE6. It might appear that it only occurs with SP1, however this cannot be positively determined.

In the cases where answers were suggested in newsgroups, particularly by Microsoft MVP's, the standard response is to clear the History files, delete temp files, downloaded files and objects. This does not work. A great many other suggestions that do not work are listed farther down this petition.

In closing, I would just like to say as the petitioner, and on the behalf of all who sign this petition, that I have used Windows products for years and I believe Microsoft owes us fixes for problems as incredibly annoying as this one. The existence of this problem cannot be ignored. The newsgroups overflow with instances of this problem. The only solution I have found is Netscape 7.0. I would prefer to continue using IE, however, being forced to wait 30-60 seconds for a new window to open or for a popup to open is unacceptable. At the very least, we ask that Microsoft acknowledge this problem exists and produce an appropriate fix as soon as possible.
