Movie Ratings Petition

Over the past few years, the MPAA ratings for movies released in movie
theaters have become strictly enforced by local and federal governments
in
such a way that the ratings were not originally designed to do.
Ratings
were meant to be a guide for movie-goers, and particularly parents, to
know
what each movie contained content wise.
However, in the past few years, the government has taken steps to take
the
decision from parents. Parents can no longer decide what movie their
child
may want to go see without having to attend it with them, and let's
face it:
PARENTS DON'T ALWAYS WANT TO SEE A MOVIE THEIR CHILD WANTS TO SEE!
They may
give their permission, but they may not want to sit through two hours
of a
movie! It used to be that you could walk into a theater with your
parents
and they could buy your ticket and give permission for you to see it
and
that many theaters would allow you to do this.
Parents should be in control of what their children want to see, not
the
government! It is a form of age discrimination when a 16 or
17-year-old
can't even buy a ticket for themselves without being turned away! In
the
state of Tennessee, for instance, it is a state law that no one under
the
age of 18 can purchase an R-rated ticket when the MPAA clearly states
that
at 17 you should be able to. Furthermore, you cannot purchase more
than
R-rated ticket without verification of age for the other tickets if you
are
under the age of 21.
Please, sign this petition and pass it on to all the people you know!
The
government is using the MPAA as a way to take control away from our
parents
and its citizens! The ratings are meant as guides for parents made by
a
panel of parents. That's basically like other people's parents
deciding for
our parents what we can or can't watch almost! It should be in the
control
of our own parents, not the government based on the decisions of a
panel of
parents at the MPAA. Ratings should still be made, but for content
only and
should not be used as a clear restriction.

the government is trying to take the place of parents. the government thinks that now a days parents cant parent at all, they need help. government wasnt set up for being kids parents.

I think the MPAA rating for rated R movies is great when it states that at 17 you can buy tickets, and I also think that people not abiding by those rules and not allowing those that are 17 to buy the tickets is wrong. I hope someone does something about

The MPAA ratings are supposeed to be a guidline, not the law. It is not the government's job to raise a child, it is the parent(s)'. I, for one, am tired of parents that are trying to get the government to raise their kids for them.
