Recently while watching television I was shocked by the new Mr. Sub ad campaign. This campaign features a teen in a very outgoing and colourful suit at a Mr. Sub location. The boy trying to impress the date hell be sharing the meal with asks the vendor for his opinion of what will impress her most. In answer to the request the vendor suggests a seafood with crab sandwich on mozza-chedder bread. First strike seafood sandwiches are nothing more than over priced processed Pollock and Mayo. This suggestion received the response of I want to impress her not marry her, in this case its not what was said but the fashion in which it was said. The whole thing was created the give the feel of a scene from Napoleon Dynamite, a movie that has become very popular with Mr. Subs target audience. The movie involves a period of time in a nerdy and tragically unpopular teens life. His mannerisms are memorable and commonly mimicked. Personally the spirit of the film was not created for the personal gain of a fifteen minutes of fame advertising campaign. Im a fan of the film for the message, and oddity. I dont want it to become a lame horse people hate due to exposure. For this reason I feel that it would be fair to boycott Mr. Sub, or were going to have another Jared/Bob Villa/ Canadian Tire Jerk type, repetitive and annoying are not good things to base ads on. It needs to stop and Im sure my feelings are shared by at least a few.
