New College of Science and Engineering "green" building

It is responsible and important to promote environmental awareness of newly constructed buildings. Such promotion of new "green" buildings on the Loyola Marymount University campus supports the Mission of the University for service and justice.

Unfortunately, it was previously decided that the newly designed LMU Library would not be a "green" building because it would cost an addition $0.8 million. However, this cost is minimal in comparison to the overall cost to construct the building, estimated at over $55 million.

This petition is therefore to urge the members of the LMU Capital Campaign to require that the design of the new College of Science and Engineering building be a "green" building. It was estimated that costs to make the new CSE building LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) bronze certified would be around $1 million, only 3\% of the total anticipated building cost of at least $33 million. It is highly important to incorporate environmental standards in the early design stages of the building.
