PETITION OHIP Coverage of all diabetic supplies To The Legislative Assembly of Ontario CANADA: Whereas Type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes) is one of the most costly, chronic autoimmune diseases of childhood that affects every organ system and one you never outgrow, people with Type 1 diabetes must take insulin to live. Whereas insulin does not cure diabetes nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating effects such as kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage, amputations, heart attack and stroke, those with Type 1 diabetes must take multiple insulin injections daily and test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood six or more times per day. A family with a child diagnosed with diabetes at age three will have estimated expenditures, on average, of $3,600 annually and well over $200,000 in a lifetime for insulin, syringes, etc. and this expenditure is ONLY for diabetic supplies, not for all health care needs. Whereas some people with Type 1 (juvenile diabetes) and Type 2 diabetes simply cannot afford the ongoing expense of managing their diabetes, they cut corners to save money by ripping test strips in half, cutting down the number of times they test their blood, and even reuse lancets and needles. These budget saving measures can often have a disastrous healthcare consequences for the individual. Whereas good blood glucose control reduces or eliminates kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage, cardiac disease and amputations. Therefore, be it resolved that we the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows: All diabetic supplies as prescribed by an Endocrinologist or Medical Doctor be covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan.

Please and thank you. This would be very helpful! Maybe more people would survive being diabetic if they didn't have for hand over all that money to take care of something that they couldn't stop from getting in the first place.

I feel this is a wonderful idea for diabetics who can't afford their supplies. Unless the government lowers the price of health supplies for diabeticsthisis the only way for people to survive by making it easier for people who don't have health insurance
