PLEASE SIGN UP AGAINST OVERDEVELOPMENT AT WHITE CITY, LONDON W12 We are fighting several proposals, which are supported by Hammersmith & Fulham Council, for commercially aggressive, energy extravagant, high-rise developments in a low-rise residential area of West London, extending from the old BBC Worldwide site down to Westfield. The plans would mean • Engulfment by dense urban development like Paddington Basin but • A cluster of high towers of investor flats, over 30 storeys • Impossible strain on local roads and sewers &c and • A precedent for high-rise development in the surrounding areas, along Westway, from Wood Lane, through Portobello and Westbourne Green to Paddington Basin. The Hammersmith & Fulham and the GLA are not listening to us, despite ʻthe Big Societyʼ and the ideals of Neighbourhood Planning. The GLA and the government are using the term 'sustainable' to mean business growth, not environmentally self-replenishing developments of the future. We do not want our established local communities to be blighted by big business. Beneficial significant development is possible if it is medium rise and sensitively interlinked to social and environmental infrastructure.
