This petition is addressing the existence of Youth-Elections Canada in regards to the Youth-Government of Canada.
What we are proposing is that Youth-Elections Canada registers separately from the Youth-Government of Canada (not as an entity or at arms length organization) as an independent and non-partisan entity so that YEC can register as charitable. Once this registration is complete a contractual agreement will be drawn up between the Youth-Government of Canada and Youth-Elections Canada that will fully outline the role of each organization. This contract will be signed by the Board of Directors of each organization to ensure it is completely legitimate and legally binding.
Youth-Elections Canada will be drafting an Elections Act for the Youth Parliament of Canada, which will outline everything to do with the electoral process and be privy to change by the Youth Government of Canada. Everything else would be outlined in the contractual agreement. This setup would be as close to the relationship between the Canadian Parliament and Elections Canada, as we feel can be made.
