We the undersigned call upon the Borough Council not to award Taylor Wimpey any future housing development opportunities within this borough until they can demonstrate themselves to operate as Considerate Contractors in Construction. Currently they purport to be members of the scheme but the experience of Rooksdown residents demonstrates that this aim is not evident in practice. We understand that the delays and issues surrounding the Rooksdown development do not rest with Taylor Wimpey however, they have made little effort to accommodate the needs of local residents as they continue to build on land adjacent to that which is already occupied - often by young families, couples and people who rightly expect some peace and quiet enjoyment of their new homes. We do not expect Taylor Wimpey as prime developer to allow: · Its contractor lorries to ignore the authorised access route to development sites and instead continually use narrow occupied streets to access the site, causing noise nuisance and damage to the bollards put in place to stop lorries driving over pavements and verges · Signage to be placed which directs site access for contractors through narrow residential streets then they should be managing their contractors and delivery drivers to use the approved routes · Site traffic and construction work to progress with apparently little site supervision or management in respect of hours of operation, noise and disturbance caused to residents · Its contractors and agents to use areas of the site and residential estate as dumping grounds or run-off and sluice points for builders waste which is allowed to interfere with the enjoyment of open space, pathways and other amenities · Itself to fail to actively communicate with and engage with existing and new residents in a totally open and honest way, continuing to promote the Rooksdown area as having potential for facilities and amenities in timescales that are wholly unrealistic given past experience. We petition the council to hold Taylor Wimpey to account for good governance of its existing development and not provide it with any future opportunities until it can demonstrate that it values building communities not simply profiting from building houses. Signed as below on behalf of Rooksdown Parish Council, Rooksdown Community Association and the residents of Rooksdown:
