To the President and the Federal Government of the United States of America,
President Bush, the relief effort for Americans affected by Hurricane Katrina is deplorable.
I could not imagine that the United States Government would not effectively mobilize the needed resources to help the people trapped in New Orleans. We can utilize endless resources for the war in Iraq, but we cannot evacuate 15,000 people from a public venue, we cannot provide refugees in Texas and Northern Louisiana with food and shelter, and we cannot aid those in Mississippi and Alabama.
We provide aid to the rest of the world, yet forsake our own people.
No, there is no easy solution to the problem created by Hurricane Katrina. But there is no easy solution to the war in Iraq, yet we are still there. President Bush, you and the rest of the State and Federal government are expected to serve and protect your own people, first and foremost.
Please, honor the Mayor's request of New Orleans. Beyond New Orleans, please effectively gather the resources that ALL the Hurricane victims so desperately need.
After the situation in New Orleans is taken care off, continue to help YOUR people, the ones affected by the greatest disaster in American history. Your effort thus far is not acceptable. In fact, the response of the American government is deplorable, and it MUST be corrected.

I agree with the petition. The only thing I object to is the verbage of calling those who have been displaced by the hurricane "refugees". People in their own country should never be refered to as refugees.

I believe that the government should help ALL people regardless. They suffered a tremendous ordeal and they need our help.
