Campaign for Prostitution Law Reform

People both male and female have the right by law guaranteed in The Charter of Rights and Freedoms to the freedom of expression and freedom of association as stated in (sections 2b and 2d). Criminalizing prostitution is an infringement on rights and we must not allow that.

Presently prostitution is legal in Canada, but not on the streets, and brothels are illegal. This leaves prostitutes no place to interact with clients.

An act that has no possible negative effect on an innocent third party should not be illegal (The Economist, 11). A persons body is according to law their own, and anything a person chooses to do with their body should be their choice with the stipulation that no innocent or non-consenting third party is subject to negative effects as a result of that choice.

The government sits on both sides of the fence. Prostitution is legal, but it is not legal to practice. Peoples rights need to be given back to them in full, and without limitations.

Trying to control brothels is costly and a waste of time. Entire divisions of a police force in larger cities are devoted to the task of removing the problem. Prostitutes are arrested but often end up back where they began, as there are no serious penalties or jail time (Milman, 49). Large amounts of funding are devoted to the task of keeping prostitution out of the public eye. If designated locations were used for this type of activity and regulated then the public would not have to see it and funding would no longer need to be devoted to the removal of prostitutes from the streets (Anderson, 13). It could be regulated in the same fashion that bars and restaurants are regulated. Owners of these establishments could have a set of strict guidelines to adhere to making the experience safe for both parties involved.

My question to you is: If stripping to create a fantasy is legal why shouldnt soliciting be? To the prostitute doing his/her job that they commit to, means simply doing a job (Miller, 145). The job may involve a sexual act, but that shouldnt make it illegal, right? After all, prostitution can be compared to strip dancing which is legal. In both cases a fantasy is being created, one party is a consumer while the other markets and sells. Both parties are involved in the fantasy while only one party is involved in receiving gratification.

If you dont see much difference between strip dancing and soliciting or you believe that a prostitute deserves to have equal rights and opportunities support the Campaign for Prostitution Law Reform.
