In as much as the overtaking of Roger Maris league leading 61 Home Runs in a single season was an incredible feat, it has become apparent over the last months that Mark McGuire broke the record through the use of steroid drugs. Although the drug was not a banned substances at the time, the fact remains that the mere use of these performance-enhancing drugs is tantamount to cheating. There were many more players who refused to take these drugs because they felt it was cheating than there were players that took the drugs.
I hereby petition the commissioner of baseball to nullify Mark McGuires Home Run in a single season and re-instate Roger Maris as the all time single season home run leader with 61 home runs in a single season. This incredible record should stand until overtaken by an athlete who does it by natural means without the aid of performance-enhancing drugs
