We feel it is nothing short of a scandal that the TV series Days' Of Hope has yet to receive a VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray release.
Written by Jim Allen, produced by Tony Garnett and Directed by Loach, this series deserves a wider audience and it is a tragedy that the BFI have yet to release it publically. We feel this is a political decision as the subject material is considered controversial, exposing the class based nature of British society in the early 20th Century.
Ken Loach: This was a four part series for the BBC written by Jim Allen and produced by Tony Garnett, whom I worked with over a long period and whose partnership is immensely valuable to me. Days of Hope was the story of the beginning of the labour movement from the First World War to the General Strike, a period when all the problems that are inherent in the labour movement first emerged.
This petition calls for an explantion of the failure by successive BFI governors to release this series of films and for it's immediate release on all formats.
