Yonge Street Mission (YSM) is moving to 365/367 Spadina Avenue. It's a non-profit organization that provides services to homeless youth. Although YSM is operating with the greatest intentions with programs and services for the disadvantaged, the community feels that this relocation would be a setback for Toronto Chinatown.
Toronto Chinatown is one of the notable tourist destinations. It is a highly visible and distinctive area in Toronto. With the prospective properties facing a main street, close to a major intersection, the potential implications from the migrated crowd will affect the everyday business and the ongoing lives of the community. Especially as Chinatown is an area that is tourism-facing, heavy on retail and restaurant businesses. And this may change the character of the street permanently.
