Rip Curl is planning to hold their annual 'Search' event in the Catlins, New Zealand. This isolated part of the country is natural, clean and untouched, essentially a representation of what New Zealand is marketed as being, if Rip Curl were to hold the Search event in this part of the country it would gain international exposure, bringing large numbers of surfers, who would quickly overrun the area and destroy its untouched beauty, which is appreciated by so many of the local people.
Sure it would be great to see any one of the top 44 shredding it in your local waves, but think of the future consequences, not just for the wave they decide on but for the area as a whole.
Please help save the Catlins for future generations!
