We believe ESAG is no longer fit for purpose.
ESAG is not transparent, or accountable to the people of the Ribble Valley.
ESAG has already been warned by Ribble Valley Borough Council about going outside its remit: http://www.ribblevalley.gov.uk/egov_downloads/Review_of_Event_Safety_Advisory_Group.pdf
and yet continues to act in a threatening, intimidating and heavy handed manner.
ESAG has a history of making last minute demands of event organisers, such as at Waddington Mayfair & Scarecrow festival, Read & Simonstone Fun Run and now Clitheroe Bonfire.
ESAG has prevented many potential events from even getting off the ground, eg Clitheroe Christmas Food Fair
ESAG's role is supposed to be to advise and support event organisers, instead it seems they are intent on making sure events do not happen. Event organisers are aware of how difficult it is to put events on in the Ribble Valley and so are going to neighbouring boroughs or staying away completely.
We dispute ESAGs version of events at last year's Clitheroe bonfire.
ESAG does not publish minutes of its meetings or reports, in fact it is extremely hard to find out who the committee members of ESAG are and if they even have any Health & Safety qualifications.
There are no elected councillors on ESAG
ESAG is not a transparent or accountable group and this is why we are calling for its end.
