Some sources have leaked to me that the ICT department at South Island School will be installing some sort of spyware or undetectable software onto our laptops.
This spyware will be able to search through our files and view anything on your Hardrive. We understand the reason for the school to monitor what we are doing at school. But to look through our private files is another thing.
Just think about it. If you had a secret conversion saved from a IM chat yesterday, the technician could be viewing it. How about a confidential business proposal. Or even just some material you want to be kept private.
Also the source indicates that this spyware will make our laptops run about 5 times slower, for easier file viewing from the ICT department.
Although these are rumours at the moment, I want to start a petition in case this actually happens.
The SOUTHERN network will be removed in November, everyone gaining exclusive acces to it right now will have to switch to SIS-student. Using SIS-student will require you to sign the agreement and have your latop 'checked' (they will keep it for the night, which gives them time to install this spyware.
