After living through an outbreak of strangles which the yard owners did nothing to curb the spread in fact did the opposite carried on going to shows etc. so potentially spreading this killer of a disease further, we contacted DEFRA, RSPCA, BHS and trading standards animal welfare dept, All four organisations have said the same thing; as it is not a notifiable disease there is not a lot that can be done to stop the spread from any source. But with your support we would like to try to change the standing of this horrible and sometimes fatal disease, making Strangles reportable to DEFRA thus enabling official departments to act and save the lives of other horses with confirmed infection.
I know this is not going to happen over night but if between us we can save the misery and suffering of just one more horse it would all have been worthwhile.
thank you for adding your support
