Stop the commercialization of Dolores Park

Why not? Blue Bottle Coffee is a national chain store, and they are in the queue to get a permit to open a "push cart" in OUR Park. Who knows whats next
The facts are:
With zero input from the community Rec and Parks is giving a company from another city a sweetheart deal to operate a cart in Dolores Park
This deal will make all other carts even more illegal
The first we hear of it Rec and Parks are already steamrolling us saying, its too late to stop
There was not enough (or any) outreach done to the neighborhood and community
So what does this mean?
It means that our park will no longer be a neutral green space and will be subject to the pollution of advertising and marketing. We love food, we love food carts and we love Blue Bottle, but we dont want them in our park. If there were a commercial entity that we could be enthusiastic about that entity would be local. And to define local may be something that is crucial at this point
What do we want?
We want the process stopped. We do not want our park commercialized by a private company. We dont want noisy and polluting generators. We want to respect the business that have been excellent stewards of the area and we want future process more transparent.
We see this as corporate collusion and aggressive, predatory business practices and have a sour opinion of how this situation eluded public scrutiny. Now we are outraged that we are being told that its too late to stop.
There is a meeting on Thursday, October 7, , 2010, 4:00 pm. City Hall, Room 416. We hope that you will attend this meeting and use the public comment device to voice your opinion on this topic.
