The bio-dome complex at Stewartby near Bedford will rival the Eden project in Cornwall, cover 40 hectares and be enclosed under massive domes.
The National Institute for Research into Aquatic Habitats (NIRAH) will be built as a research facility and a tourist attraction.
Four times the size of Eden, NIRAH will cost 250m and employ 2,500 people.
The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) has already loaned the project 4m to survey the site, draw up the business plan and try to raise the cash it needs.
The EEDA says at least 20m a year will be ploughed back into the Bedfordshire economy.
Under the centre's domes will be recreations of the Amazon Basin and the Mekong Delta, stocked with tropical trees and plants and thousands of species of freshwater fish, amphibians and reptiles.
"The centre will offer an unrivalled resource for researchers in the biosciences and is set to be an important tourist attraction not only for the region but nationally in the UK and in Europe."
BUT Some people want building of the site to cease do to animal welfare issues. Remember, this wonderful construction will put on show thousands of species not seen before, but not only that, information will be gathered on these species to better educate and respect these wonderful creatures in the future. The habitats that will be provided will be 300 times better than anything the home hobbiest could provide, it will also safeguard some species from extinction in countries where welfare of animals is obsolete, priorities lie elsewhere in their economy. Also, because breeding of the animals will be part of the research, the site will also provide rare excess species to elite Hobbiests and fish organisations instead of plucking them from the wild, which normally would over time harm their native ecosystem and breed survival rate.
So, support the building of this conservation and educational facility, planned to be built on Bedfordshire wasteland. It's an opportunity for the UK and animal lovers alike, something that should not be spoilt by out of date animal rights campaigns, and ignorant, mislead activists.
