The reasons why Tony Marryatt should not receive such a massive pay rise are varied and many. At a time when we are all struggling in Christchurch, people are out of their homes but paying rates, people still have to use a garden loo or portaloo, while negotiating interminably with EQC and the insurance companies, food banks are struggling to keep up with demand, to say nothing of the precarious world economic state - surely a council that was divided at the vote for this increase should see that now is NOT the time.
