UF Football Season Ticket

We are writing this petition to go back to the former way of ordering University of Florida Gator student season football tickets, meaning a return to the use of the telephone system. The new lottery system may be the fairest way to give everyone a chance but is by no means the best way to do it. The following reasons explain why the lottery system is a terrible idea:

The lottery was recently used to distribute tickets for the 2003 Florida-Georgia game. Although all were distributed electronically, many student tickets were not picked up. We are led to believe that some students saw the lottery as a quick and effortless way to purchase tickets with no intention of going and possibly seeing the lottery as a way to sell their ticket to those less fortunate for profit. True fans, however, would have gladly spent days on the phone, calling non-stop for tickets just as they have in the past for the purchasing of season tickets. These are the people that should have been at the Florida-Georgia game and who deserve to fill the Swamp at every home game next season. These fans will not scalp their tickets for a quick buck but will support their team to the end.

Another major issue is what could potentially happen during the football games. Imagine that only about half of the true fans are fortunate enough to win tickets through the lottery leaving half of the stadium to be filled with casual fans. This means that the Swamp will be by no means the rowdy game-day stadium that over the years we have come to know and love. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is known throughout the NCAA as one of the most intimidating places to play. The stadium literally rocks and the players feed off this energy. What happens if this excitement and energy is gone?

There is no undoubtedly fair solution for issuing student tickets. However, using the phone system is the best way to allow the people that want season tickets the most to get them.
