Veteran Motorcycle License Plates for the Province of Ontario

VETERAN MOTORCYCLE LICENSE PLATES - PROVINCE OF ONTARIO, CANADA





The Ontario Government has recently made some headway into recognizing the sacrifices of the veterans. Most recently, they formally dedicated a stretch of Highway 401 between Trenton and Toronto as The Highway of Heroes and a series of large signs have been installed along the route. Ontario Premier Dalton McGintys stated This Highway of Heroes remind us that our freedom, safety and prosperity is often purchased by the sacrifices of others. We owe them a great debt - and while we can never repay that debt we can see to it that their courage and commitment will always be remembered.





As a veteran, I am proud to see recognition finally coming our way and when I travel the roads of Ontario in my truck, people know I am a veteran thanks to my veterans license plate and Support the Troops ribbon.


But, I am a motorcycle rider too and have been in touch with the government in an effort to get Veterans License Plates for motorcycles too.





The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has advised that despite many requests to create a new motorcycle license plate, they will NOT be doing so. Below is a quote from the e-mail received from Andrew Bonisteel, employee for the MTO, on October 9, 2007:





The size limitations of the motorcycle licence plate prevent the addition of any graphic. Ontario licence plates are designed and tested for both conspicuity and reflectivity as the characters must be large enough to be readable by law enforcement agencies and by camera technology (for example red light cameras and Highway 407 cameras). The motorcycle licence plate does not provide enough room to physically retain the size of the characters, and to maintain the appropriate reflectivity standard, and to add a Veteran graphic.





LAME isnt it?? Do you really believe that there is no way they can increase the size of the plate slightly or that they cant come up with some other resolve to allow for veteran motorcyclists to have a veteran license plate?





We need to put pressure on the Ontario Government to revisit this issue and I ask that all veteran motorcyclists show your displeasure with this decision and your support for the veteran motorcycle license plate.
