In 2005 in the Central African Republic of Cameroon, government forces shot three students dead- Gilbert Nforlem, Aloysuis Ambourer and Alain Amoh - at a peaceful protest in their campus. Efforts by the families of the dead students and Human rights groups to get justice for the dead students have simply been ignored by the Cameroon regime. Cameroon forces have since shot and killed two more students--Ivo Obia Ngemba and Muma Bennet on November 29, 2006 at another peaceful protest at the same campus.
The Cameroon regime has a well-documented record of violent repression of its people as reported in the yearly Department of State report to the Congress on human rights practices, and Amnesty International yearly reports. The United States is prohibited from providing assistance to countries that engage in a consistent pattern of gross violations of internationally recognized human rights according to the Foreign Assistance Act.
I'm writing to urge you to cut US funding to the Cameroon regime unless they prosecute all the officers involved in the cold blooded murder of students in 2005 and 2006 at peaceful protests at the University of Buea.
