We urge Brian Frons, Megan McTavish, and Julie Hanan Carruthers to make Zach Slater and Kendall Hart a long-term, front-burner couple. No one expected this pairing to be long-term but rather a temporary odd couple that would generate humor and excitement and that would function as a catalyst for other pairings. However, the writers unwittingly made magic!! In the Zach and Kendall pairing, viewers witness passion, humor, real intimacy, and emotionally-gripping problems (internal to the couple and not imposed from outside). This pairing is so interesting to watch because it is an "organic" couple, that is, a couple whose development toward one another and with one another was natural--generated unintentionally from the mixture of storyline and the characters' attributes. The heat comes off them in waves when they are "flirting," and their witty banter is hilarious!! Even when Zach and Kendall are pulling at our heartstrings, they are a pleasure to watch, as they stand together against the world or circumstance. Perhaps the best quality of this couple is its "humanity." Zach and Kendall seem so real, complete with inner demons that frequently threaten their peace of mind and their relationship. They are deeply flawed, frequently hurting others and each other as they wrestle with their demons or negotiate the 'all-too-often-cruel' world, but they redeem themselves in their capacity to love and support one another. They have both achieved success and suffered failure. In short, they faithfully represent the best and the worst in all of us.
