A planning application has been submitted to St Albans planning dept. 5/2012/1799, to demolish the current 4 bed house and replace it with TWO huge 5 bedroom semi's, plus conservatories. PLEASE say help us say NO, thank you.
The design is american style townhouses - hideous arched windows, basement garage, with parking immediately adjacent to the public pavement, not in keeping with the local area. Dormer windows in the roof at the rear, threaten the privacy of all neighbours and those in Rose Walk. It is: on a major route around St Albans, heavily congested with traffic especially at rush hour, it is a main route for several bus services and especially for school children on foot and by bus; disruption and nuisance of the demolition has not been accounted for; an eye sore, the vast size and proposed basement garages, pose a genuine danger to neighbouring properties of subsidence because the heavy clay soil is water logged for much of the year, with a high water table, this area has numerous natural springs. The area once was a gravel pit to accommodate high water levels, but continuous development is creating water logging in most gardens as it's a low lying area.
